DoyouKnowa. Find a tradesperson

Why DoyouKnowa

We don’t hand you a list. We do the comparing for you.

Traditional trade directories

  1. Hundreds of profiles
  2. You read dozens of reviews
  3. You compare prices yourself
  4. You guess who’s actually best

DoyouKnowa

  1. Describe your job once
  2. KnowaChat works out what you need
  3. We compare recommended local trades
  4. You hear back from the best three

Our story

We signed up to other platforms as tradespeople. It was worryingly easy.

On one site, the only test of skill was a single multiple-choice question. On another, “verification” meant typing in the number of a friend who could vouch for our work.

“I’ve spent my career in IT. Ten minutes later, I was a ‘qualified carpenter’, free to offer my services in people’s homes, with no actual experience at all.”

Two ways to find a tradesperson. Both leave you on your own.

The endless list

Search, and you’re handed 200 profiles to filter through, every one apparently the best for the job.

The open auction

Post your job online, and anyone can bid on it. Even our founder, with no experience.

The insight

The best way to find a tradesperson hasn’t changed in decades.

Ask people you know, or ask your local community. So that’s what we built DoyouKnowa on: a deliberately small list of tradespeople who have actually been recommended.

“Do you know a plumber?”

“Do you know an electrician you can trust?”

“Can anyone recommend a handyman?”

How we find our tradespeople

We don’t wait for sign-ups. We go where the recommendations already are.

Every day, someone asks “do you know a good plumber you’d recommend?” When a local tradesperson is recommended for the kind of job you need, we invite them to take on your job.

  1. Someone asks the question

Over the fence, at the school gate, on a public page: “does anyone know a good builder round here?”

  2. A name gets named, more than once

Real praise from real neighbours, with no marketing budget behind it. That’s the strongest signal there is.

  3. We invite them to take on your job

Using the contact details their business publishes, we tell them about your job and ask whether they’d like it. Once they join, we check their ID and insurance. Tradespeople who haven’t finished our checks are clearly labelled “Not yet checked”.

  4. We keep you updated

We’ll let you know whether they can help, and if they can’t, we’ll tell you and suggest others.

Jess M.Does anyone know a decent plumber near us? Ours has just retired and I’ve got a leaking stopcock 😕

SamTry Dave, redid our bathroom last month. Brilliant job and a fair price. Really recommend him.

PriyaSeconding this! Used him twice now, always turns up on time.

Who’s behind DoyouKnowa

A small team in Berkshire

We got tired of watching friends and family struggle to find a tradesperson they could trust, so we built a service around the one thing that actually works: real recommendations. Founded in 2025, officially launched in October 2026.
